The Sam Curling-trained Red Rookie was only beaten three lengths in third on his debut in the four-year-old geldings’ maiden at Inch. The son of Black Sam Bellamy was always to the fore of proceedings in the hands of Derek O’Connor and travelled notably well into the contest. The chestnut came to throw down a strong challenge three-out and pulled clear with the leader from the penultimate obstacle. The newcomer found plenty for pressure on the run to the line, galloping on strongly and certainly losing little in defeat. This likable sort could well progress into a smart sort under rules.
