Starozov cost connections €15,000 from the Tattersalls Derby sale last year, a seemingly small fee following an impressive debut win at Kinsale. One of two newcomers in the four-year-old maiden, this Morozov gelding was given a confident ride from Jimmy O’Rourke. Making his way into contention from three out, he took the measure of runner-up Reikers Island on landing over the final fence and showed a potent turn of foot to quicken away from the rest of the field and see off the challenge of his closest pursuer. He seems a smart sort that has plenty of speed and he should develop into a track winner over middle distances without any difficulty.
