Kool Kid has been unlucky not to have got his head in front with two narrow defeats this season. But those efforts have seen the son of Kool Kompany show great versatility. Making his seasonal re-appearance in heavy ground at the testing track of Peppard’s Castle last month, he approached the final fence with a share of the lead only to be outjumped, but he showed great resilience to fight back and get back in front of that rival in the drying strides, only to then be headed by a fast-finishing rival who came from off the pace to nab him on the line. Switching to quicker conditions around a sharper track at Damma House, he was one of two horses that pulled clear of their rivals in the straight. Jumping the last upsides, his chief rival got away from that fence quicker, but Kool Kid once again showed his will to win, finishing with a flourish, only missing out by a neck. His initial victory is surely just around the corner after these latest two efforts.
