Getaway Fred got off the mark at the second time of asking when taking the five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Dawstown for Pat Crowley. Having come to grief at the final fence at Quakerstown when running a big race on his debut, the son of Getaway certainly displayed no ill effects when reappearing a fortnight later and recording an impressive two-length success. The five-year-old was given a patient ride by Johnny Barry, before making steady progress inside the final mile. The good-looking sort came home well in the closing stages to secure success and on this evidence the bay should have no problem making his impact felt under rules.
