Matthew Flynn O'Connor looks to have a very smart prospect on his hands in the form of Sporting John who ran out a taking winner of the four-year-old maiden at Borris in testing conditions. Having jumped well in mid division, the Jimmy O’Rourke-ridden debutant caught the eye travelling very strongly into the contest from three-out. The son of Getaway found plenty for pressure when asked for his effort, pulling clear on the run to the line to win by over two lengths. This was a very smart performance in what looked a competitive contest and this nicely bred sort looks an exciting type going forward.
