Ontheropes made a very promising debut at Punchestown in February when finishing second to the highly regarded Madiba Passion in a competitive four-year-old maiden. Ontheropes was ridden in mid-division for much of the race and was unlucky to run into some interference before the fourth last where he soon regained his position and progressed to the runner-up spot on the run-in where he rallied well in the closing stages to just lose out by a head at the finish. The Denis Murphy-trained son of Presenting is from the family of the Grade one placed Gentle Buck. Having posted such a strong run, this well-bred gelding lost little in defeat and is a very likeable youngster with a lot to offer it seems.
