Kilbeg King posted a very credible debut performance when only beaten by one and a half lengths in a competitive five-year-olds geldings’ maiden at Tinahely. Ridden by Barry O’Neill, the son of Doyen was never too far away from the pace and travelled very smoothly into the contest over the last mile. The five-year-old showed a good attitude to regain the advantage having been headed after the second-last, and he did look the likely winner, only to put in a very costly looking mistake at the last. This can easily be excused from what is clearly a talented type and given the attributes he showed on his initial start he looks like a gelding that can develop into a smart track performer that will have an exciting future inside the rails.
