Holymacapony became the first point-to-point winner for Libertarian when he made an impressive winning debut at Kirkistown in February. The four-year-old was bounced out here and made much of the running under Simon Cavanagh. The bay gelding put in a good round of jumping for much of the contest when going a good even gallop, however he did make two notable errors which he overcame, errors which may well have ended the chances of a lesser horse. To his credit the debutant saw off the attention of his challengers after the penultimate obstacle, before quickening away in good style to beat his rivals by a promising seven lengths. The Cormac Farrell-trained winner displayed a nice blend of both speed and stamina which highlights him as an exciting sort, who will be a real addition to any trainer’s yard.
