The Denis Murphy-trained Sambezi showed plenty of potential on his debut performance in his four-year-old maiden at Bellharbour in February. The French-bred son of Rajsaman jumped well at the head of affairs for much of the contest under Luke Murphy. The four-year-old held off the attentions of all challengers apart from the eventual winner, as the field raced across the top of the track towards three out. After jumping the second last the winner Star Gate forged clear and Sambezi was unable to quicken with him, although he was still keeping on well when cruelly falling at the final fence. This well-bred gelding had however shown enough attributes at this point to suggest that he should be well up to making his mark if put to the task again.
