Confidence was high ahead of the debut of Kalkbrenner at Tattersalls last Sunday as he well supported beforehand resulting in him being sent off as the short-priced favourite. He justified that market support, as the €45,000 store sale purchase was one of two horses that pulled away from the field from the third-last fence. He was strongly tested here, because his main rival was a more experienced, previously placed and race-fit £125,000 store purchase. The Getaway gelding gave chase to him entering the home straight, but from here he showed a great attitude, battling past that horse on the climb to the line, to win going away by a length and a half.
