  • Purchaser: Clay Pigeon Bloodstock
  • Price: £62,000

Clay Pigeons showed a great attitude to make a winning return to action at Boulta last Saturday. The Elusive Pimpernel gelding had ended last season showing real promise at Stradbally, falling at the final fence whilst in a share of third. He built on that last weekend when winning on the quickest time on the card. Always to the fore, he was in third position jumping the penultimate fence, but he showed great battling qualities to come between runners and strike the front at the last, from where he galloped right to the line, repelling the challenge of a €62,000 store purchase, with the pair quickening a notable 15 lengths clear of a €100,000 Derby sale purchase that was back in third. It is also worth noting, that the time this close relation of the 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner clocked was nine seconds quicker than the average on the card.
