Thunder Dragon ran out a ready winner of the five-year-old mares’ maiden at Punchestown on just her second start for Shane Byrne. The daughter of Kalanisi made a promising debut at Dungarvan before showing nice improvement to take what looked a competitive 13 runner contest at the second time of asking. It is well worth noting that both the second and the fourth have since won, while the third placed mare was only just touched off on her next start. The winner jumped well in mid division under Simon Cavanagh before readily quickening clear from the penultimate obstacle to win by a comfortable six lengths. Going forward this may well be a smart mare on the track proper.
