The Ellemarie Holden-trained debutant Diamond Grove made a very taking debut to finish second behind Coconut Splash in the four-year-old maiden at Castletown-Geoghegan in the hands of Derek O'Connor. The son of Nayef, who raised a good gallop throughout the race, gradually increased the tempo inside the final mile. Only the winner was able to live with him from the third last as the other runners fell away. The two were locked in battle turning-in with the winner just edging clear in the final stages of the race. It is worth noting that both horses drew well clear of the rest of the field with 16 lengths back to the third horse. This encouraging debutant could well develop into a useful sort on the track.
