The Donnchadh Doyle-trained Madera Mist got off the mark at the second time of asking in the five-year-old mares’ maiden at Borris House in March under Jimmy O'Rourke. The daughter of Stowaway followed up that success with a fine second later in the month in a winners’ of two at Portrush under Rob James. Having made most of the running, the €28,000 store was joined at the last by Royal Drumlee, where a slower jump hindered her chances. However the chestnut rallied back, getting to within a length of the eventual winner. It is important to note that the pair pulled clear of the field, with 25 lengths back to the third horse. This mare is a likeable sort that could progress into an exciting prospect for new connections.
