Somptueux lost little in defeat when finishing second on his only start to date in the four-year-old maiden at Loughbrickland. Given a patient ride, the French-bred made very smooth progress through the field inside the final mile, taking up the advantage with three to jump. Stuart Crawford’s charge quickly opened up a ready advantage on the run to the final fence and jumped the concluding obstacle with a two-length advantage. The son of Spirit One kept on gamely to the line, only getting caught in the dying strides, to be beaten two lengths. Having lost little in defeat here this is certainly a very promising sort.
