Warendorf took the five-and-six-year-old geldings’ maiden at Belclare in March on what was his second start between the flags. The son of Speedmaster had one previous run at Horse and Jockey 12 months previous to that where he pulled up. Stepping up notably from that effort, Warendorf received a waiting ride and progressed to track the leaders from the third last fence where he took up the lead on the run to the penultimate fence and soon held a strong advantage over his rivals which saw him draw clear to win by an impressive distance. Out of a half-sister to the Grade two placed, Herculano, Warendorf is from a family of track winners which includes Coral beach and Shell Burst. Warendorf has shown himself to be a decent youngster and looks like a horse that can make his mark on the track for his new connections.
