At the conclusion of the November National Hunt Sale, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Matt Mitchell commented;
“Words fail to credibly describe the foal market. The depth of demand vastly exceeded the most optimistic expectations, with the number of foals sold for €50,000 or more rising to 28 this year. Equally significant has been the outstanding quality of the foals on offer this week and breeders have been handsomely rewarded which instils confidence in the future of national hunt breeding in Ireland. This confidence was reflected in the strength and depth of the mare market.
I would also like to extend our thanks to HRI and ITM for their assistance in ensuring that we were able to stage another successful sale in Fairyhouse and thanks is due to both purchasers and vendors who attended the sales complex and adhered to the strict sales day protocols."

Lot 2:
the Prince Of Lir colt out of Eliza Snow gets the sale off to a good start – sold by Bramblestown for owner-breeder Kevin O'Donnell is bought by Hillen / Tuite for £40,000.
It is a good return for O'Donnell on his breeding investment – Eliza Snow cost him just €800 as a yearling at the Tattersalls Ireland November Sale in 2011, while this year's second season stallion Prince Of Lir, sire of the Norfolk Stakes (G2) winner and Phoenix Stakes (G1) runner-up The Lir Jet, was available for just €4,000 in 2018.
(11:04)
Lot 12:
the New Bay colt from Ballylinch Stud is bought by Durcan Bloodstock for £65,000.
"He is bought with Sheila Lavery, and will go into training with her for an exsiting owner," said Durcan. "He is just a nice type, and is by a sire we love. He is going to need some time and is going to be a next year horse, hopefully he is going to be a nice horse in time, we are really happy to have him."
Lavery added: "He is from an excellent farm and we have been lucky farm that we have bought from before."
(11:25)
Lot 25:
is this year's second six-figure lot, the Acclamation filly selling to Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock for 115,000gns. It is the biggest touch in the sale ring for Eddie Linehan's Lackendarra Stables – the filly bought last year at Tattersalls October Book 3 for just 6,500gns.
"She was just in the corner as you come into the yard, she was with Rathbarry Stud. When I am looking at yearlings I give them stars – four stars is top marks and she got three," recalls Linehan. "She came in the ring and she was being sold for 1,000gns and I was thinking 'What's wrong?'
"I rang my father at home and as we were talking she went to 6,000gns, I threw one bid and that was the filly bought.
"I got her home, there were no issues with her, she has done nothing but thrive. The last couple of months she really started to shine in her last few bits of work. Everything has gone right here – her temperament is very good – everything went smoothly and she breezed very well."
Of waiting through the spring for this sale, Linehan said: "She was bit backward and needed a bit of time and this was always going to be the main aim – I am delighted it has worked out, it is huge."
He added: "It is the best touch we have had by a mile, double the best I have ever had before. We didn't have great years through the last couple of seasons so this couldn't have come at a better time."
Linehan, who may well head out to celebrate when the pubs in Ireland open at 12pm next Monday, tends to concentrate on pinhooking fillies to breeze. "I find them a lot more straightforward and they seem to suit out place, we turn them out the whole time. It is works great."
The filly was pinhooked by a long-term Lackendarra syndicate, Linehan said: "It is group of guys and they have been with me since I started with my very first breeze-up horse seven years ago, so it is huge for them, too."
The filly is going into training with Ed Dunlop, who has a big weekend ahead at Epsom with Derby entry John Leeper, who has been allotted stall 2 in today's draw.
Richard Brown said: "She did a lovely breeze, Acclamation has done very well with his fillies – in fact we bought Daban at the Guineas Breeze in 2016 and she won the Nell Gwyn and then was placed in the Guineas; we have a bit of a soft spot for them. This filly did a seriously good breeze, and she is from a gorgeous fillies family, too. We are delighted to get her."
(12:01)
Lot 44:
Mark McStay of Avenue Bloodstock with trainer Hugo Palmer goes to 82,000gns for this son of Galileo Gold.
Palmer had good reason to ensure that he was the winning bidder on this colt – he trained Galileo Gold to his 2,000 Guineas success and now trains Ebro River, winner of last week's Listed National Stakes, the first stakes winner for the Tally-Ho Stud-based sire.
"This colt goes to Hugo Palmer, who is 'Mr Galileo Gold!'" laughed McStay. "This is a lovely horse, we really liked his breeze, he showed a good attitude and temperament and he comes from a great nursery in Tally-Ho, he was recommended by Roger O'Callaghan.
"When Hugo saw the colt yesterday he was the only horse he had on his list. He was been bought for an existing owner of Hugo's and we are delighted to get him. He was a fair price and the good ones are hard to get and we expected him to sell well. He is nice horse and one of the better colts here today."
Ebro River is owned by Al Shaqab Racing, who also owned Galileo Gold as a racehorse and stand him in partnership with Tally-Ho, and Palmer outlined the two-year-old's Royal Ascot options.
"We have got half an eye on the Norfolk and an eye and a half on the Coventry. He will get entries in both, but the Coventry is where I'd like to go," said Palmer. "We never thought of him as a sprinter, he has now had three runs over 5f, and I'd like him to be running over 7f before too long."
(12:26)
Lot 1:
in a private sale this No Nay Never colt is bought by Charles Shanahan and the US-based trainer Patrick Biancone for £100,000. Sold by Mocklershill, the February-born colt was a £75,000 pinhook purchase last September.
He is out of the Dalakhani mare Eleanor Roosevelt, the dam of one winner from two runners, and a half-sister to the Group 2 winner and Group 1 Middle Park Stakes third Captain Marvelous (Invincible Spirit).
No Nay Never is the sire of three Group 1 winners and 52 stakes performers, and his three-year-old filly Alcohol Free, who finished fifth in may's 1,000 Guineas, holding a Royal Ascot entry in the Coronation Stakes (G1). His two-year-old filly Nymphadora, who is trained by Andrew Balding, won the Listed 5f Marygate Fillies' Stakes at York in May.
(10:30)
Lot 75:
"We bought him for 12,000gns, he was a lovely horse, he is a big walking horse and that is what we liked about him," said Brian Slattery of Meadowview Stables after selling this colt today for 65,000gns to Jeremy Glover, adding: "He has done well since we bought him and Awtaad is starting to come with his three-year-old, they do look more three-year-old types. I imagine this colt will be that sort too, but I do think he'll be good at two!"
Dam Mitzi Winks (Lookin At Lucky) has produced one winner – Shrara (Dandy Man) who won as a two-year-old last year – grom her only runner to date. She is from the extended family of No Nay Never.
Second-season Derrinstown Stud-based sire Awtaad, a son of Cape Cross, won the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas (G1) beating the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas (G1) winner Galileo Gold, who has enjoyed a good start to his stud career this season, into second.
(13:19)
Lot 99:
the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Sale at Newmarket has been a lucky venue for Brendan Holland of Grove Stud – the farm topped last year's sale with a £220,000 Kitten's Joy filly and it has repeated the £200,000+ mark again today when this Bated Breath filly fetched £240,000.
The successful bidder was Alex Elliott, who was standing at the top of the stairs.
"We come to these sales and we try and buy the best horses, and we thought she was the best horse here – her price suggests that plenty of others thought so too,"smiled Elliott. "She did a very good breeze, she has got a pedigree, she is by a sire that I admire – when you want to buy these horses that can do everything, you've got to get the head down and buy them. She has been bought for a partnership, I don't know who will train her yet but she will stay in England. She was one I thought we had to have, I am very happy.
"Her vetting was good, she is a beautiful physical, her action is superb, you could see her in a parade ring before a good race. It is good throw, let's hope it works out."
Of the sire, Elliott said: "I think Bated Breath is one of the best value sires in Europe, he gets colts, he gets fillies, they do well in the States – this filly could go over to America as she has that profile."
A delighted Brendan Holland said: "She is a lovely filly, gorgeous, she has a bit of pedigree, isby a nice sire, did a great breeze – at the end of the day that is what this game is all about – breezing well."
When asked how he managed to buy the filly for 30,000gns, Holland admitted: "I not sure really! I thought she was a nice yearling, there was no mystery, she was just nice and I thought at that money with that pedigree she was a good bet. She was from Jenny Norris, I like buying off her, she produces them well. Hopefully the filly is lucky for the next guy, she has been good to us."
of the breeze up season which concludes today, Holland reported: "The year has gone fine, I have had a good year, I had a strong team. It is always a tough spring for all of us, it is very intensive for the staff as much as for the horses. It is great when you get a good result, when it works out, everyone works so hard for it.
"The staff feel as much as you do, they put so much effort into producing the horses, once they breeze well we are all happy, just to see the products of their endeavours is very gratifying."
(14:39)
Lot 103:
competition was strong for this filly last year's leading first-season sire Mehmas, produced by Eddie Ahern Bloodstock, but it was the Sangster / Blandford Bloodstock partnership standing in the stair well, who was successful at £90,000.
“She’s a lovely filly," said agent Stuart Boman. "She did a very good breeze and Mehmas has done an exceptional job, I’m a massive fan; he’s done it with probably not the best book of mares but he consistently upgrades his mares. I saw this filly early on and I very much liked her; she’s a muscular filly, she breezed exceptionally well and did a very good gallop-out. Eddie Ahern is a former jockey from Newmarket and I’d say that’s probably one of his best results as a consignor. He prepared a nice filly and did a good job and he got rewarded. She’s going to France to Nicolas Clement.”
